Mr David Black
David Black joined the Melbourne Institute in January 2004 as a Research Officer in the Labour Economics and Social Policy area. He has a Commerce (Honours) degree from the University of Melbourne and is currently enrolled in the PhD program at the Melbourne Institute, with his proposed thesis research concerning retirement decision-making and population ageing in Australia. David’s research activity includes analyses into deficiencies in the Australian labour market concerning employment opportunities, the dynamics and effects of unemployment, and the balancing of work and family commitments, with the view to explaining social trends and formulating appropriate public policy to alleviate any adverse effects. His research interests are focused primarily in areas of labour economics, particularly the determinants, dynamics and experiences of unemployment, along with interests in aspects of population ageing, productivity, education, and social policy.
